Roberto Firmino explains the feeling of missing out on title last season | OneFootball

Reds forward Roberto Firmino has stated that he is using the pain of missing out on the Premier League title last season to inspire him this season.

The Reds accumulated 97 points in the 2018-19 Premier League season, which wins you the title more times than not. However, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City amassed 98 points, which left Jurgen Klopp’s side falling one point short.

Firmino is using the hurt of falling one point short to inspire himself to Premier League greatness this season. The Reds possess a 14-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand.

“Last year we hit the post in the Premier League, we were upset of course that we didn’t win,” Firmino told Premier League Productions, as quoted by LiverpoolFC.com.

“We have a chance this season, it’s in our hands. We need to keep it up, working hard, following this path with our heads in the right place and a winning mentality.

“We’ll take things game by game and keep this strong champions mentality up until the end and see where it takes us.

“Of course we’re more confident this season. We’ve been winning all our games, this increases our confidence game by game. We have to continue with this momentum.”

This mentality runs through the entire Liverpool squad. Many would sit back and feel sorry for themselves, but not Firmino.

Liverpool have been superb so far this season. They have only dropped points in one Premier League fixture, which was the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford back in October.

It is still too early to call if the title race is over, but Firmino and his teammates may get to lift the trophy come May.
