That would not have been good enough in the past when only the top eight qualified, but the decision in 2020 to change the post-season format to include 12 of the 19 top flight teams has afforded teams far more room for error.

“There is always a lot of demand in Chivas,” Alvarado said, per TUDN.

“I think we owe a little because if the tournament was with a direct Liguilla we would not have qualified, but we are aware of what we have done, of what we have lacked and now we are in the play-offs.

“We have a pretty big opportunity this weekend and the opportunities are there to be seized.”

The 24-year-old also called on Los Rojiblancos to become much more clinical than they were for much of the regular season.

“The team is very focused on what it wants, we know that it is our last opportunity to continue in the tournament, to continue advancing and we have to make the most of it.

“Sometimes there is only one opportunity, we have to take advantage of it and seek to finish our chances.”

Chivas will travel to Puebla on Sunday looking to book their place in the quarter-finals.
