Chelsea will lock horns with Newcastle United at the Stamford Bridge in a Premier League fixture on Sunday. They managed to extract a draw against Brentford in the recent game. With 36 points in their bag after 26 rounds of play, they are ranked 11th in the points table.

It won’t be wrong to say that the Blues don’t have much to get from the domestic league this season. They are 14 points off the Europe League spot, meaning the chances of them qualifying for Europe are negligible. The best they can do is to identify the players for next season and build a core team.

Defence

Spanish goal-stopper Robert Sanchez is likely to start ahead of Djordje Petrovic, who has done a decent job till now. Malo Gusto showed a brilliant display of performance against Brentford and will be retained as the right-back.

Big boost for the Blues as Thiago Silva is supposed to make a comeback and will form the centre-back duo with Axel Disasi. An injury to Ben Chilwell means Alfie Gilchrist makes it into the XI as the left-back.

Midfield

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are the two holding midfielders for Chelsea. They will be responsible for controlling the tempo of the game and supplying the ball to advanced positions.

Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk are the wingers in the lineup alongside the attacking midfielder Cole Palmer. Unfortunately for the Blues Conor Gallagher is still struggling with illness.

Attack

Boss Mauricio Pochettino will retain Conor Gallagher as the leader of the attacking unit for Chelsea. He scored a goal against Brentford and would like to continue the form.

Levi Colwill (toes), Christopher Nkunku (knee), Reece James (hamstring), Romeo Lavia (thigh), Lesley Ugochukwu (hamstring), Carney Chukwuemeka (ankle) and Wesley Fofana (ACL) are out of contention. The participation of Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella is subject to fitness.
