The Poland national team have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski will miss their opening game of EURO 2024.

Poland will take on Netherlands in their first Group D clash on Sunday.

But they will have to do without the Barcelona striker who has suffered a strained thigh muscle.

Lewandowski came off during Monday’s friendly over Turkey and reports overnight suggested the striker could well miss the whole tournament.

But in a statement on Tuesday the Polish FA have insisted that “although the veteran forward will be unavailable for the tournament opener, our medical department will be doing everything they can to get Lewandowski ready for their second match with Austria.”
