Robert Lewandowski could etch his name in history again.
On Wednesday night, Bayern Munich kick-off their title-defending Champions League campaign against Atlético Madrid.
If Lewandowski scores against Diego Simeone’s side, he will have the scored in the most group stage games in a row. The record (9) is currently shared by him and Cristiano Ronaldo (2012-2014).
In last season’s campaign, Bayern made history by winning every single match on their way to a sixth CL title. They won the final 1-0 over Paris St Germain with Kingsley Coman the hero.
On an individual level, Lewandowski found the back of the net 15 times moving his total tally to 68 goals in the competition.
Atlético’s defence will be hard to breakthrough but given the Polish international’s current form, it could happen.
Lewandowski has been red-hot in the new Bundesliga season with seven goals and three assists in four games.
