Against all odds – and contrary to our predictions a week ago – the Romelu Lukaku return to Inter is ratting towards a conclusion at some speed, and it now looks more likely to happen than not.

That will be a relief to Chelsea fans and the coaching staff, who appear to want him out as soon as possible.

But it does then drop us right back to where we were a year ago – in need of a top striker.

There aren’t many on the market, especially now Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have made their decisions. But one other big name could be up for sale – Robert Lewandowski.

He’s been linked endlessly to Barcelona, and they are still heavy favourites to sign him – but ESPN today claim to have knowledge from “sources” that the Blues are keen to bring him in.

He’s a top player, and while he’s well into his 30s, he’s still got plenty more to give.
