There’s no doubt that Vitor Roque has had an extremely tough start to life at Barcelona. The teenager arrived in January from Athletico Paranaense with big expectations, but he struggled to be prominent for Xavi Hernandez during the second half of last season.
Despite the change of management, Roque’s situation is not any better. Barcelona’s sporting department want him to leave, and they do not believe he is not good enough for Hansi Flick’s squad at this moment. A loan has been floated, although a permanent sale – which would help the club’s finances – is also being mentioned.
Roque seems more out than in at Barcelona, although teammate Robert Lewandowski hopes that he continues at Can Barca. He spoke recently about his own struggles during the early stages of his career, as per Relevo.
“I remember when I left Poland when I was 20 years old and I was traveling alone from country to country. For everyone, that is a big step. He has to believe in himself and work hard. He is always ready to train, and of course he has the talent.”
Roque’s situation will be one to watch in the coming weeks. A loan to another La Liga could help him in his efforts to adapt to Spanish football, especially as he’s unlikely to see much football at Barcelona during the 2024-25 season (as things stand).
