Bayern Munich duo Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller were both left frustrated by Friday night’s shock defeat at the hands of Augsburg.
That result combined with Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 win over Stuttgart on Saturday leaves Bayern with a slender lead of just one point at the top of the Bundesliga table.
“We didn’t play well enough and didn’t show what we can do,” said Lewandowski, after scoring his 14th Bundesliga goal in 12 games this season.
“Not everything worked. The fact that we let up two goals is too much. In parts, we should have played faster.
“It’s something else when you concede two goals, then the opponent can play deeper. We have to look forward now and show our football again.”
Müller, meanwhile, believes Bayern ultimately paid the price for a poor first half.
“The first half was bad — very bad,” he said.
“And in the second half, you could see that we wanted to turn it around, but maybe we didn’t earn that bit of luck in front of the goal.
“This is a bitter setback in our self-image. I think we were too careless and then it happens that you get punished. Sometimes it happens that you may finish a match unpunished.”
