La Selecta qualified for the tournament by finishing first in Group A of CNL League B in the 2024/25 CONCACAF Nations League. El Salvador earned a 5-0-1 record in League B and also secured promotion to League A.

The campaign for El Salvador began with a 4-1 victory over Montserrat with goals from Brayan Landaverde, Emerson Mauricio, Tereso Benítez and Kevin Santamaría.

The next two matches came from narrow wins, 2-1 over Bonaire that included a match-winning goal from Mauricio, and a 3-2 win over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with goals from Styven Vásquez, Santos Ortíz and Francis Castillo.

The only loss in CNL for El Salvador came 2-1 at Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Rudy Clavel was the lone scorer for La Selecta.

La Selecta went on to win the remaining pair of matches, 1-nil each, against Bonaire and Montserrat. Styven Vásquez and Rafael Tejada, respectively, provided the winning goals.

El Salvador’s best finish at a Gold Cup came as quarterfinalists on six occasions, most recently at the 2021 edition.

Manager Hernán Darío Gómez previously coached fellow Concacaf nations Guatemala, Panama at the Gold Cup, taking Los Canaleros to a third-place finish at the 2015 edition.
