River Plate president Rodolfo D’Onofrio has accused Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici of not wanting to play the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final.
The match, originally slated for 24 November, had to be postponed after a bus attack outside El Monumental left several fans and Boca players injured.
“I cannot believe he has shown this level of disrespect toward CONMEBOL, River, its presidents,” D’Onofrio said of Angelici at a press conference on Wednesday.
“He has not lived up to his word and did not respect what we signed (for the game to be postponed).
“It’s clear they (Boca Juniors) don’t want to play it. They can win it (the Copa Libertadores) but they don’t want to play.”
D’Onofrio then singled out Angelici and sent him a personal message: “Enough with this, come and play, let’s play the game.
“You signed an agreement with me and you gave me your word. Don’t listen to those that tell you what to do because you don’t have to do that.”
CONMEBOL would like the match to take place on 8 or 9 December, however, a venue has yet to be decided.
Miami was dropped from consideration on Wednesday, leaving Asuncion, Paraguay and Doha, Qatar as the two front-runners to host the match.
Doha emerged as a strong candidate due to the city’s close proximity to the United Arab Emirates – where the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup will take place beginning on 12 December.
The first leg between the two sides ended in a 2-2 draw at Boca’s La Bombonera – a match that was delayed a day due to heavy rain.
