Marcelo Gallardo has returned to River Plate for a second spell as coach.
The 48-year-old had three spells as a player for Los Millonarios, before enjoying a successful eight years as coach between 2014 and 2022, during which time he won the Copa Libertadores twice, the Copa Sudamericana, the Argentine Primera División title, and a number of other major trophies.
After leaving the Buenos Aires giants towards the end of 2022, Gallardo took a break from football, before taking over at Al-Ittihad in November 2023.
He won 15 of his 33 matches in charge of the Saudi Pro League club, but was sacked at the end of the 2023/24 season, and will now return home to the club at which he began his career.
River are currently 11th in the Primera División and take on Talleres Córdoba in the Libertadores Round of 16 later this month.
