One rival manager has named the Chelsea player who made the difference in their defeat against The Blues late last night in the Premier League.

Chelsea escaped a very heavy Bournemouth threat to win 1-0 with a late Christopher Nkunku goal, but they can count themselves hugely lucky to go away with all three points with the hosts deserving much more than they got.

Bournemouth had all the chances to score whereas Chelsea rarely threatened, and the home side were also just much more energetic and hungry. Chelsea came away as winners in the end, and it wasn’t just down to Nkunku’s late winner.

Robert Sanchez made a string of top saves in the Chelsea goal to keep a clean sheet, and some of them he had no right to get to. The Blues stopper was superb last night.

Sanchez was great last night

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was speaking after the game, as posted on X, and he said:

“For me, the keeper was the difference today, especially with that save from Ryan Christie. And when you play against these keepers, forwards and defenders, you have to be very good, clinical and don’t make mistakes to get a reward. We had a lot today but not enough.”

And he is absolutely spot on here. Bournemouth should have scored at least two goals in this game, but Sanchez was certainly the difference.

Chelsea will need to improve going forward despite managing to carve out all three points, which essentially is the main thing that matters here though anyway.
