Chelsea fan facing jail time after pleading guilty for making anti-semitic tweets at Tottenham Hotspur supporters

According to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), a Chelsea fan is facing potential jail time after he pleaded guilty to seven counts of sending offensive and abusive messages to Tottenham Hotspur supporters on Twitter.

Blues fan, Nathan Blagg posted images, tweets and also retweeted a series of offensive messages that are anti-semitic in nature. The messages were investigated by Chelsea who then passed on the information to the police.

The 21-year-old was arrested earlier this February. The messages in question were made between September 29, 2020 and February 5, 2021. Prosecutor David Roberts claimed that the posts in question can be considered as racially aggravated.

According to the report, Blagg’s attorney admits that his client now understands how wrong his actions were. The 21-year-old has since taken himself off Twitter, the platform he used to spread his hate.

“With hindsight, he now understands how wrong this is.”

While it is good to see someone stand up and admit their mistake, the law will have to take its course and ensure they are punished for their actions. At the very least Blagg has now been made aware of his transgression and will hopefully not repeat it in any form towards any person or community in the future.

More has to be done to curb hatred online.

“There is not going to be a repeat of this behaviour moving forward.”

The 21-year-old has been released on unconditional bail. The magistrates have adjourned the case until November 5, when the reports will be completed. Blagg was initially reported by a West Bromwich Albion fan who brought the attention to that of Chelsea’s security team. It is fair to say that everyone involved have dealt with the issue as best as they could.

Online platforms such as Twitter have emerged as cesspools of hate that aims digs at players and fans alike. While it is good to see Blagg repent for his actions, there are still many out there who continue to spread hate. For now, this is one small win for humanity but a bigger battle lies ahead with no end in sight.
