According to the reports from The Sun, Manchester United speedster Daniel James has been on Leeds United’s radar. Leeds wants to secure the Welshman’s services before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window.

Manchester United have begun their Premier League campaign in a drastic manner, losing 3-1 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. Daniel James was one of the unexpected names to start the game. He was picked over Manchester United first choice, Mason Greenwood.

Despite him being given a chance to flourish in the opening weekend of the Premier League, the 22-year-old failed to utilize the opportunity open-handedly. He was subbed off by Greenwood at the half-time following a dreadful and one-dimensional first-half performance.

Since joining Manchester United from Swansea City for a reported transfer fee of £12m in the summer of 2019, the Wales wizard is an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans, providing the team with the width during the earlier stages of the 2019-20 campaign.

Having racked up four goals and seven assists in 47 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions to date, James has now fallen behind the emergence of Mason Greenwood in the pecking order.

And with United looking to sign a right-winger, James might fall further down in the queue.

As reports suggest, Leeds United tried to sign James from Swansea in 2019. However, a deal fell apart on the deadline day of the January transfer window, and James chose to join United a few months later instead.

Marcelo Bielsa sees Daniel James as an option who could inject his versatility as well as his blistering pace into Leeds’ game plan. Daniel James’ contract with United will expire in June 2024.

Should United decide to sell James, it could earn them the cash they need to fill other voids in the roster.

Our take

We don’t think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like to get rid of James with around two weeks left in the transfer market to shut. OGS has very few options on the wing and with United competing in four competitions this season- squad depth is necessary.
