After being surrounded by hype for so long, 19-year-old Riqui Puig finally made his Barcelona first-team debut against Cultural Leonesa on Wednesday night and it was one to remember.
Puig came on for Oriol Busquets in the 55th minute and produced a display that will live long in the memory.
Despite only being on for just 35 minutes, Puig was fouled more times than anyone else on the pitch.
Puigâs moment of the match came in the 70th minute when he supplied a lovely chipped pass to Denis SuĂĄrez to create the teamâs fourth goal â fueling instant comparisons to AndrĂ©s Iniesta.
âItâs a debut I dreamed about,â Puig said after Barcelona advanced to the Copa del Rey round-of-16.
âA win and an assist on top of how well the team played. I used to come to the Camp Nou when I was three years old, imagining what it would be like to play here.
âErnesto [Valverde] has given me the opportunity and the reality is a dream come true.
Given that heâs managed to make Lionel Messi feel âastonishedâ watching him in training, itâs safe to say that this young ladâs future is looking awfully bright.
