Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged his old side to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin, 24, has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign with the Toffees.

Since arriving in Merseyside in 2016 following a £1.62m switch from Sheffield United, the English striker has racked up 51 goals in 166 appearances, in all competitions.

In what has been a particularly impressive campaign, Calvert-Lewin has already netted 14 Premier League goals – and Ferdinand believes the 24-year-old would be an ideal signing for United.

Speaking on his Five YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “Listen, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, for me I love him.

“I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. It’s one out of left field a little bit but I think he’d have a big impact.”

United are rumoured to be in the market for a new striker, especially if Edinson Cavani opts against renewing his deal and moves on in the summer.

Despite Ferdinand’s glowing review of Calvert-Lewin, with his Everton deal not set to expire until 2025, it’s extremely unlikely the Toffees will want to sell.

However, should Everton fail to qualify for European football next season, with Calvert-Lewin a man in form, perhaps the lure of United may be too hard to resist.
