Paul Pogba’s return to Juventus is expected to be made official in the next few days.

Following his second exit from the club, six years after re-signing from Juventus, the Frenchman has been criticised by pundits and fans alike.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand states that Pogba should take responsibility for his shortcomings at Old Trafford, but he also stresses that the club’s lack structure down the years hasn’t helped players to reach their objectives.

Speaking on his official YouTube show, Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said: “If we asked Paul Pogba right now, ‘did it go as you planned? Did it go as well as you wanted it to go? Was it a success?’ I think he’d say no at Manchester United.

“Yes, he won the Europa League but Paul, I know him, wants to win the Champions League, wants to win the Premier League, at least wants to be in contention, but he wasn’t. He didn’t manage to gain any consistency.

“There were a few standout performances, a few standout goals here and there but I know what Paul is like and he wants to be considered the best in the world or one of at least. He never really got to that stage. Now, the question is why?

“I think he has to take responsibility for a lot of it, but I think the club need to do that too. I think sometimes it’s about timing, he came to Man United at a time when they were in transition, things weren’t perfect behind the scenes.

“The structure of the club wasn’t great, recruitment wasn’t great and I think the other components put around him didn’t suit him. The thing that is weird for me, when you spend £90 million you’d normally think you’d build around that player.

“I don’t think he had that. I’m not trying to make excuses for him, I feel like you need everything to fall into place if you’re going to be a success. You need your foundations and the fundamentals of the team structure to be in place.”
