Rino Gattuso has urged Valencia fans to judge him on his coaching.

The former AC Milan and Napoli coach is set to be named new manager of Valencia. The Italian's presentation is expected to be held on Thursday.

He told Corriere della Sera: “I just want to do the work that I like, with peace of mind. And be judged for that alone. For who I am, really.

“I am very different from how I have been described for twelve months. Statements from different years are taken, isolated from the context and processes are put together with the aim of delegitimizing a person, a life.

"The courts are serious things: someone accuses, someone defends, someone judges. Here the technological scaffolding collapses and defines sentences without the possibility of appeal. I'm not a social type. If they call me a racist, there must be a reason. I don't hunt for easy consents, I don't play well when ordered.

"I am the one who works, the one who has always worked, the one who has worked so hard and the one who thanks life for what it has given him. When I hear that I'm racist, I feel like I'm going crazy. No person, ever, can be judged by the colour of his skin. I know, many of white skin that do not behave well. Racism must always be combated.

"I trained dozens of players who had a different skin than mine, three of them work in my restaurant, I had teammates who I loved. For me, the colour of the skin does not matter, the person counts. His honesty, his loyalty."
