Ridvan not quite ready as Rangers’ Borna takes his chance | OneFootball

Some weeks ago Ibrox Noise ended up in a bit of a set-to ourselves with a long-term follower, who was a big fan of Borna Barisic.

We suggested his days were numbered at Ibrox because the club had just spent £5M+ on a Turkey international in his position, and while the vast majority agreed with this, the follower suggested the new boy had to prove himself first.

We didn’t deny this, but as with the internet, it got heated and became a bit of an argument involving a few other members.

It turns out the girl was bang on, and Ridvan is quite a distance away from the first team, while Barisic is enjoying a timely renaissance of form and is becoming, again, the man to shift.

See, Ibrox Noise are more than happy to concede when we get an opinion or a fact wrong, and have never been too arrogant to give credit to someone who was right when we were not.

And her point is correct. Ridvan struggled in his one appearance v Killie, and isn’t ready yet for fully-fledged Rangers football just yet, while Borna has grasped the chance with both hands and is looking a lot more like his old self again.

It’s clearly a case the young Turk is one for the future, and like the last young LB signing we made, he’s not quite there yet or ready for the rigours of football with Rangers.

Yes indeed, Calvin Bassey took 12 months to sort himself out after an incredibly slow start which saw him well below the pecking order.

It’s the same for Ridvan – he’s raw, he’s young, and he’s a lad in a new country who’s taking time to adjust. While the likes of Tillman have taken to their new life like a duck to water, not everyone does.

And until Ridvan does, Barisic is filling LB up very nicely.

In truth, going forward the Croat and Turk is very very healthy competition indeed for that slot.
