Pundit Jobi McAnuff has criticised Hull City owner Acun Ilicali's decision to dismiss Liam Rosenior, speaking on Sky Sports.

The Tigers finished the season in seventh place, improving on their league finish from the 2022/23 season, but falling short of the play-offs.

Considering they made some excellent additions during the January transfer window, Hull's fanbase were extremely disappointed to miss out in the end.

But there was little debate about whether Rosenior had taken the club to a much better place since taking over, with the Tigers now in a much healthier state on the field despite missing out on the top six.

With this in mind, many people were shocked to see the news that Rosenior had been sacked yesterday, just days after their campaign had finished.

This has left owner Ilicali with a huge job on his hands, as he looks to appoint a potential upgrade on Rosenior.

This will be an extremely difficult job, especially with the Turkish businessman coming under a lot of pressure for his decision to part ways with the Tigers' previous boss yesterday.

McAnuff on Rosenior's Hull City sacking: "I think it's a ridiculous decision"

McAnuff was one man who voiced his criticism following yesterday's shock dismissal.

He said: "Well, they say nothing in football surprises you these days, but that genuinely did.

"It shocked me, I think it's a ridiculous decision.

"Ultimately, he's done a fantastic job at that football club. They were languishing right down the bottom of the table when he went in.

"He's really transformed not just the playing style, but the whole feeling around the football club.

"Yes, listen, they missed out on the play-offs on the last day, but every other marker, performance-wise in terms of what he has done at that club, would suggest he has done a good job.

"So again, ridiculous decision, I certainly feel Hull City's loss will be someone else's gain, he'll be at the top of a lot of lists. So hopefully, once he's over that, we'll see him back in (management) very shortly."

Hull City's decision to sack Liam Rosenior is a poor one

With the calibre of players they had, some would argue that they should have finished above Norwich City and secured a play-off spot.

However, it was never going to be easy for all of their January signings to make a real impact considering they came in halfway into the campaign.

And to sack Rosenior, who has improved Hull considerably, was a terrible decision.

Only a successful successor will be able to silence this criticism - and Ilicali will need to appoint a clear upgrade to prevent further criticism.

You can't help but feel this dismissal will end up backfiring, because it's always hard to succeed a popular manager, as the likes of Mick Beale and Wayne Rooney found out last season at Sunderland and Birmingham City.
