Richarlison was the victim of racial abuse during Brazil's 5-1 win against Tunisia in Paris on Tuesday evening.

The Tottenham forward scored the second of the Selecao's five goals at Parc des Princes, but a banana was thrown at him from the stands during his celebrations.

The incident came after Brazil had posed with an anti-racism banner prior to kick-off which read: "Without our Black players, we wouldn't have stars on our shirts."

Following the match, Brazil's football federation tweeted: "After Brazil's second goal, a banana was thrown towards Richarlison. The CBF reinforces its stance against discrimination and vehemently repudiates yet another episode of racism in football. Whether on or off the field, attitudes like this cannot be tolerated."

Richarlison also took to Twitter post-match, commenting: "As long as it's 'blah blah blah' and they don't punish, it will continue like this, happening every day and everywhere. No time bro!"

A social media post from Spurs read: "We are disgusted by the racist abuse of Richarlison at last night’s game between Brazil and Tunisia. This has no place in football, or anywhere. We stand with you, Richy."

The incident cast a dark cloud over what was otherwise a fine evening for Brazil.

Two goals from Barcelona winger Raphinha, a penalty from a reinvigorated Neymar and one from Flamengo forward Pedro in addition to Richarlison's strike capped off the Selecao's pre-World Cup campaign and head to Qatar among the favourites.
