Everton faced off against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane earlier today hoping to pull off an upset on the road. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but failed to make the breakthrough due to some lacklustre finishing. The Merseyside outfit went into the half-time break with the scoreline level and everything to play for in the second half.
Richarlison finally managed to break the tie when he scored with a beautifully glanced header in the 46th minute. The Blades came back strong and enjoyed more of the ball, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men hung on to their narrow lead to claim all three points after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Yorkshire.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Blades.
The English keeper made a couple of decent saves on his way to keeping an all-important clean sheet on the road. Ancelotti will be happy with his performance today.
He grew into the game and experienced a decent return to the first-team. Sidibe was defensively strong and put in a tireless shift on the right side of Everton’s backline.
The Toffees defender did well to keep the Sheffield attackers quiet during the 90 minutes and secured a well-deserved clean sheet at the back.
The promising youngster produced a matured display at the heart of Ancelotti’s defence and dealt with everything that came his way relatively well in the second half.
The French left-back was not too adventurous in the first 45 but put in a solid display after the half-time break.
The English speedster was unfortunate not to get an assist when his excellent cross was met by Calvert-Lewin who only managed to hit the post.
The Portuguese midfield ace produced a commanding display at the centre of the park and sometimes retained possession well for his side.
Davies put in a tireless shift in midfield and was not shy of covering every blade of grass to get his team over the line.
The Icelandic international got into some dangerous positions and ended the contest with an assist to his name. However, he still looked like a shadow of his former self.
The English forward struggled to get himself involved in the final third and was mostly a frustrated figure up top.
The Brazilian attacker made the decisive breakthrough with a glancing header early in the second half. He looked a bit jaded but still managed to put in a match-winning performance for the Merseysiders.
He brought some fresh energy off the bench.
Coleman didn’t have enough time to influence the game.
