We heard from the rumours that Richarlison was a Chelsea target this summer before Spurs completed the signing, and the striker has now confirmed that.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, the controversial Brazilian has admitted that Chelsea, along with Arsenal, were interested in signing him too.

“I know Chelsea made an offer, and I believe Arsenal also contacted Everton to ask about my situation, but Spurs came in and paid the fee, you know? It’s as simple as that. Everton had to sell some players to avoid a Financial Fair Play problem, and the negotiations were very brief, to be honest,” the former Watford and Everton man explained.

In the end, it’s a shame he’s gone to Spurs. He’s got a lot of talent and a lot of fight, and he could have been the perfect Diego Costa replacement for Chelsea, who have long looked for a goalscorer with some attitude.

He’s just scored a brace for Brazil, and looks set to start for them at the World Cup.

Chelsea may well soon be kicking themselves thinking about what they missed out on. Unless Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang really works out, they will be wishing they’d been more decisive in their move for Richarlison.
