Declan Rice is ‘interested’ in a move to Manchester United with the West Ham midfielder understood to be on the club’s wish-list of summer targets.

Rice has established himself as a key figure for club and country since coming through the academy system at the London Stadium, the 22-year-old having enjoyed a superb campaign for the Hammers who sit in the Champions League places with just seven games of the season remaining.

The England international has captained the side for much of the season and his performances have long drawn admiring glances, with Chelsea having been strongly linked with the player previously, though that was before Thomas Tuchel’s arrival.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing a new defensive midfielder this summer and have placed Rice amongst their list of potential targets, and the Manchester Evening News are reporting that the midfielder is ‘interested’ in the possibility of moving to Old Trafford.

Rice is believed to have spoken to England teammates Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw over aspects of the Red Devils, ahead of reported interest from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side.

Recent reports have suggested United could offer Jesse Lingard to West Ham in part-exchange, with the midfielder having starred on loan with the Hammers since arriving in January.

The 28-year-old has scored eight goals and provided three assists in just nine league appearances, though West Ham will do their utmost to keep hold of Rice even given their interest in a permanent deal for Lingard.

David Moyes claimed last month that Rice is worth ‘far more’ than the £100m figure that has been speculated for his services and a potential qualification to the Champions League could boost the club’s hopes of retaining their most valuable asset.

West Ham are currently fourth ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Newcastle at St James’ Park, one point ahead of Chelsea and three clear of Liverpool in the race for a top-four finish.
