Ricardo Peláez has flatly denied that Chivas were pressured into the decision to sack Víctor Manuel Vucetich as manager by outside forces.

‘King Midas’ was relieved of his duties on Sunday, despite leading the Flock to a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Pachuca on Saturday.

The pressure had been building before that, however, including increasing negativity about the team’s progress on social media networks.

But director of football Peláez insists that the club were not swayed by public opinion.

“We are not guided by what is said on social networks or by boos,” he said (via TUDN).

“I think we did not find that football evolution that we were all looking for.”

“It took a lot of work, the environment was increasingly murky, but always a technician with the hierarchy trajectory that Víctor Manuel Vucetich has, we wanted to give him time. I do think we’re a bit stuck.”

Chivas have a policy of only playing Mexican players, which does make the job of competing against sides with foreign talent all the more difficult.

And Peláez was keen to stress their gratitude for how Vucetich had bought into the club ethos.

“Few times I had to work with a technician who trusted Mexicans so much, in the basics,” the director said.

“He gave seven players their debut, he raffled it like few others. For example, I do not know if there is another manager who has been to all the games of the U-20, the Tapatío, and that he did out of conviction.”

Marcelo Michel Leaño has been installed as interim head coach ahead of Saturday’s Clásico Nacional against América.
