RFC Seraing have been given a lifeline thanks to the failed takeover of Oostende. While the side from Liege were relegated at the end of the Challenger Pro League season, they have become the benefactor of Oostende’s inability to find someone to takeover the club and their impending bankruptcy. Oostende will cease to exist as they are now which means there is one spot free in the Belgian second tier. Rather than promote another team from the third tier, the league will feature Seraing who obtained a license to play in the second tier.
Seraing suffered back to back relegations after dropping out of the Pro League during the 2022/2023 season. They were unable to avoid the same this season and were in the end lucky that circumstances mean they remain in the second tier. However, the club backed by FC Metz will certainly have to improve dramatically if they are to avoid relegation next season. They will, after this season at least, be one of the favourites to go down if they do not strengthen the playing squad.
