“Reward for the mentality”

Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Omar Marmoush with their views on the win against Wolfsburg.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “It was a very physical contest with a lot of tackles. Nevertheless, we had our moments on the counter in the second half, which we should’ve used to put the game to bed earlier. Unfortunately, we left the door open, conceded the equaliser but then responded well. After that, we defended really well. In that respect, we can say it’s a deserved win. It’s important that we can also win these games against physically awkward teams like Wolfsburg.”

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “Wolfsburg were aggressive and in our faces with a lot of second balls – without being hugely dangerous. We didn’t play like that for the first 15 to 20 minutes, which is why we tweaked things, which helped us offensively and defensively. The well-worked opening goal was a result of that. In the second half, we could’ve decided the game a bit earlier. VfL put us under pressure, but we showed a good reaction to conceding, like we did against Hoffenheim, and didn’t let it throw us off course. Even though a penalty decided it in the end, the victory is the reward for the team’s mentality – a clear sign of quality.”

Omar Marmoush: “It’s been a super Saturday. Getting three points away from home, especially here in Wolfsburg, isn’t easy. We’re very happy and I’m happy that I was able to help the team. We played as a team and were rewarded for the hard work.”
