Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic has often reiterated his desire to stay at the club, but could a change of scenery prompt him to reconsider?

The 35-year-old made his return to Appiano Gentile last summer, 13 years removed from his initial loan spell at Jose Mourinho’s court.

While the veteran had his moments last term, they were too few and far between. For the largest part, the Austrian struggled with physical problems that took their toll on his performances and limited his playing time.

Nevertheless, Arnautovic has a contract valid for another year, and he has often made it clear how it intends to honor it.

But according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInter1908, the former West Ham star could eventually change his mind.

As the Roman newspaper explains, Arnautovic will clearly be at the bottom of Simone Inzaghi’s pecking order.

Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram established themselves as automatic starters last season.

Due to the lack of alternatives, Arnautovic was able to collect some playing time when Inzaghi opted to rotate his attack. The same goes for Alexis Sanchez

But with Mehdi Taremi joining the ranks, the situation could quite differ this season.

The Iranian has already presented himself as a competent option based on his early pre-season form. Some even tip the 32-year-old to earn a starting berth in the Serie A opener against Genoa.

Taremi can be a reliable backup for both Martinez and Thuram.

Marko Arnautovic Could Reflect On His Future At Inter Milan

As for Arnautovic, he will join the team’s pre-season camp in the coming days. The source believes that a stark reality check could be awaiting him.

Therefore, the Austrian could realize that his role at the club has become very limited. This could spark him to consider an exit in search of prominence.

In this case, Inter would be looking for a new fourth striker, which could well be Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson.
