It appears that Romelu Lukaku might have been Chelsea’s fourth choice striker to bring in last summer.

It is normal for clubs to have big shortlists of potential options to bring in for any one position, but according to reports, Chelsea spoke to three other strikers before they signed Lukaku, but none of them were viable.

This is according to Goal, who claim that Chelsea held talks with Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, Harry Kane of Tottenham, and Erling Haaland of Dortmund, before turning to Lukaku and signing him.

None of these options were seen as viable, hence why they went all in for Lukaku, per the report.

This might explain the whole argument of whether Thomas Tuchel has been willing to change his style of play to fit Lukaku in, and then the whole interview with Sky Italy where Lukaku was questioning the system at Chelsea.

Can only see this going one way still.
