Regardless of the question of who will be sitting on the FC Bayern bench next season, it is already clear that the Munich club will be making a major shake-up of its squad. As has now become known, the top earners in particular are being touted as potential sales candidates.

In financial terms, FC Bayern has been the measure of all things in the Bundesliga for some time now. In terms of salary costs, the Munich club is also right at the top of the European league. According to the Capology platform, Bayern’s salary budget for the current 2023/24 season is €256 million (€9.5 million on average per player). This puts FCB in third place in a European comparison.

It is precisely this situation that those responsible want to change. BILD recently reported that Munich are no longer willing to spend money on contract extensions. According to the report, Leroy Sané even has to accept a pay cut in order to receive a new contract at the Isar. Joshua Kimmich, who is already one of the absolute top earners, is also not expected to receive a pay rise.

Bayern does not stop at big names

As transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports, the Bayern bosses will also be keeping an eye on salary costs during the planned squad reorganisation in the summer. In plain language, this means that top earners such as Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry will be scrutinised particularly closely. However, Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano, who are among the best-paid defenders at the record champions, could also end up on Munich’s list to be axed.

According to Romano, however, plans in this regard have not yet progressed far. The bosses want and need to involve the new coach in the personnel decisions.

The interesting thing is: According to information from BILD, Bayern could spend up to 200 million euros on new players in the summer, provided they generate transfer income themselves through corresponding sales.
