Newcastle United have handed Martin Dubravka a six-year contract that catapults him into the top salary bracket at the club, Football Insider understands.

United announced at the end of last month that the Slovakian goalkeeper, 30, has committed to a deal that runs until the summer of 2025.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Dubravka has agreed a deal that lifts his wages to around £80,000-a-week.

This is equivalent to nearly £25million in wages alone, and puts Dubravka on a par with previous top player earner Jonjo Shelvey.

Dubravka’s agreement replaces the four-year deal he signed when joining permanently last summer after initially impressing while on loan at St James’ Park.

He is firmly established as the first-choice Newcastle keeper and has made 61 appearances in total, including starts in all 11 of the league matches under new boss Steve Bruce.

Dubravka has conceded 76 goals and kept 18 clean sheets for the Magpies, and was named the North East Football Writers Association player of the year in 2018.

He has let in 17 goals in 11 games this season, keeping shut-outs against Tottenham, Manchester United and Brighton, the first two of which were memorable victories.

The 16-times Slovakia international first joined Newcastle on loan in January of last year in a deal that was made permanent in the following window for £4.3million.

He has proved good value for United and the six-year deal ties him to the club until he is 36.
