Revealed: Manchester City to abandon traditional sky blue and white kit colours for FIFA Club World Cup

Manchester City’s stars are not expected to wear the club’s traditional sky blue and white at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, according to leaked images.

Pep Guardiola and his players will make the trip to the United States in the summer as a direct reward for their UEFA Champions League success in 2023, when a solitary goal from Rodri against Inter of Italy secured the club their first triumph in the competition’s history.

Manchester City would then go on to win both the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, and the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia – the final edition of the competition prior to its expansion and rebrand being launched Stateside this summer.

As such, the Etihad Stadium side will arrive in the United States as the reigning champions of the competition, looking to preserve the place of their gold ‘world champions’ badge worn on all of their kits since their success in the Middle-East back in 2023.

While the summer is of course an opportunity for further silverware and history, it is also an excellent chance for Manchester City to expand their image across the globe to new audiences, and with that has come a bizarre marketing strategy from those within such positions.

It was revealed late last year that Puma would collaborate with KidSuper Studios – a streetwear clothing brand based in Brooklyn, New York – to launch special kits for the Club World Cup featuring novel colours different from Manchester City’s traditional sky blue and white.

And now, supporters have been handed their first look at those shirt designs which will no doubt cause some controversy among supporters hoping to see the club’s tradition and history preserved on the world stage.

According to information relayed by Footy Headlines, Manchester City’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kits – made by Puma and KidSuper Studios – will combine the club’s well-known sash design with a pattern simulating the iconic ‘Poznan’ fan celebration.

With Manchester City seemingly ditching their traditional sky blue and white colours for the competition, it is revealed that the club’s ‘home kit’ will be predominantly white with a black and red sash across the front of the shirt.

Embedded within the shirt is also a design emulating the supporters’ beloved ‘Poznan’ celebration, which features fans in stadiums turning their backs on the game, linking arms, and jumping up and down.

As for Manchester City’s new ‘away kit’ for the competition, it is revealed that the design features a striking orange terms officially as ‘neon sun’, with a diagonal black and neon yellow sash across the front of the shirt.

According to the same report from Footy Headlines, Manchester City are expected to launch the brand new shirts for the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and make them available for purchase across the globe in late May/early June 2025.

Manchester City are confirmed to be taking on three fixtures in the group stage of the competition with clashes scheduled against Wydad AC, Al-Ain, and Juventus between the conclusion of the European season and start of the new campaign this summer.

There remains a possibility that the tournament could be the first chance for Pep Guardiola to show off some new signings, although the topic of conversation among some supporters is whether Kevin De Bruyne will still be at the club come the summer.

The 33-year-old confirmed earlier this month that he would be leaving the Etihad Stadium come the expiry of his contract this summer, however that date is in the middle of the United States-based FIFA Club World Cup.
