Manchester City scouts will reportedly attend the upcoming Serie A match between Inter Milan and Torino to watch Nicolo Barella.

According to The Guardian, as reported by FCInterNews, the Citizens have dispatched emissaries to monitor the Inter talisman and Torino ace Samuele Ricci.

Nicolo Barella has been on the sidelines since picking up an ankle problem against AC Milan a fortnight ago.

The 27-year-old was unavailable for selection as Inter squeaked past Udinese 3-2 before demolishing Red Star Belgrade 4-0 last night.

However, he should return to full fitness for Torino’s visit to Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday.

Barella has developed into one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe, let alone Serie A since he arrived from Cagliari in 2019.

During his five-year stint at Inter, he has grown to become the vice-captain and one of the fan favorites at Meazza.

Therefore, Inter will likely go above and beyond to retain his services despite growing interest from foreign lands.

Barella’s significance to the Nerazzurri resembles Ricci’s influence on Torino’s play.

Yet, Urbano Cairo has shown numerous times in the past that he’s willing to sell anyone for the right price.

Manchester City could be relying on Cairo’s history as they seek a new long-term solution for their aging midfield department.

Pep Guardiola has potentially lost his most trusted midfielder, Rodri, to a season-ending injury.

With Kevin De Bruyne not getting any younger, it’s only natural to assume the perennial Premier League champions will do business in January.

Barella and Ricci have caught Guardiola’s attention.

However, Inter would unlikely negotiate their stalwart’s departure midway through the campaign.

Ricci’s situation is different. He could leave Turin for an obsolete figure.

In addition to Manchester City, several domestic clubs have shown interest in the Italy international.

Milan and Inter have emerged among the most realistic candidates.
