An insight into the extent of the financial return secured by Spanish giants Barcelona, by way of their participation in last season’s Champions League, has been provided this afternoon.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, who have revealed just how much money the Blaugrana missed out on, owing to their early exit from the competition.

Xavi’s troops, for their part, endured a European campaign to forget in 2022/23, ousted from the Champions League at the group stage, before losing out to Manchester United upon dropping to the Europa League.

And those working behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital, in turn, were dealt a hefty blow.

As per the aforementioned MD, Barca were afforded a total of just shy of €70 million by UEFA, for their endeavours in the Champions League.

Though, on the surface, this may not sound like too shabby a figure, it pales in comparison to that earned by the club to have gone all the way in the competition – Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues, owing to their first-ever triumph in the continent’s elite club competition, bagged a whopping €135 million.

Barcelona’s Clásico rivals Real Madrid, meanwhile, received an injection of around €119 million, for reaching the final-4.

Amid the ongoing monetary woes being endured at the Camp Nou, it is safe to say that a deep run in this season’s Champions League would in turn come as a welcome boost.

First up? A Last-16 first-leg showdown with Serie A champions Napoli, later this month.
