Manchester United failed to sign Paulo Dybala thanks to the player’s image rights

Paulo Dybala to Manchester United is a rumour that continues to do the rounds as we head into the summer window.

While the club may have to wait until 2022 to land him on a free, that may not have been the case had negotiations worked out in the past.

According to Tuttosport via Sport Witness, the Red Devils were close to signing Dybala in the past. While a deal was agreed upon by Juventus and United, it fell through due to issues concerning the player’s image rights.

The 27-year-old stayed put in Turin and has since both amazed and struggled. While he was a key player for Juventus in seasons gone by, Dybala has fallen victim to injuries and loss of form this season.

With just four goals and two assists in 18 games, he has largely enjoyed a forgettable campaign. With just a year left on his current deal, Dyabala’s situation has drawn attention from the likes of United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Given the prospect of losing him on a free next year, Juventus may be forced to sell Dybala on the cheap this summer. Whether United can land him remains to be seen.

No special treatment!

Despite being a world-class signing, Dybala would be amiss to expect special treatment at Old Trafford. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rates the player, he is not keen to build the team around him.

The 27-year-old will need to put the team before himself and it remains to be if that is something he will consider.

The report also goes on to state that a swap involving Paul Pogba, who himself is in his penultimate year, is an option. Given both players’ form and ability, it is clear that we will not the ones who will get a better deal in such a transaction.

There is little doubt that Dybala is a fine player and will add much to the United frontline. However, whether he is the striker we crave is debatable.
