Inter Milan and Netherlands defender Stefan de Vrij will be out for around two weeks recovering from a thigh injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

De Vrij returned to Inter from the Netherlands training camp earlier this week.

The reason is that the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender had picked up a minor muscle injury during training with his national team.

The problem concerns de Vrij’s adductor muscle.

The problem is not overly serious. However, it should still take de Vrij a number of days to come back to fitness.

The Corriere anticipate that it could be around two weeks before the 32-year-old is back on the pitch.

Inter Defender Stefan De Vrij To Be Out For A Couple Weeks

De Vrij already underwent medical tests in the Netherlands before returning to Italy.

Therefore, Inter are waiting to receive the results of those tests in the next day or two.

But according to the Corriere, there is already a strong sense of how long de Vrij will be on the sidelines for.

The Dutchman should be out for more than a week.

This is particularly significant given the timeline for Inter’s return from the international break.

Inter face Empoli in Serie A on the first of next month.

That means that the Nerazzurri will be back in action in ten days.

And so de Vrij would be a significant doubt for that match. Inter are hardly going to rush the player back into action, particularly given the size of their advantage at the top of the Serie A table.

But with Francesco Acerbi also possibly out for the rest of the season – the investigation into the 36-year-old’s racial abuse is ongoing – Inter could be left with few options in the centre of defense.
