Revealed: Erling Haaland’s wage demands make his transfer impossible

Sources close to Goal have revealed in a recent report, that Erling Haaland’s astronomical wage demands will most likely drive off potential suitors this transfer window. His move to Barcelona is now looking increasingly improbable, as is a transfer to rivals Real Madrid.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is perhaps the most sought after player in the transfer market right now. However, the operation’s finances are massively hindering negotiations as Dortmund and Mino Raiola being involved are making the deal very pricey. The German club, who are notoriously shrewd negotiators, have outright stated that they intend to keep Haaland at least for another season. If not, the price tag will not drop below 150 million euros.

The report highlights that Haaland’s 35 million euros per season wage demand is now scaring off even the biggest names in world football, including Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Catalans of course, are bound by stringent finances, which makes the operation even more unlikely.

The media had been set ablaze when the striker’s agent Mino Raiola and father Alfie Haaland touched down in Barcelona to meet with president Joan Laporta and then made their way to Madrid to meet with their eternal rivals. However, those talks were reportedly informal, with no financials being discussed at that stage.

The report also states that an English club approached Dortmund for their Norwegian wonderkid but walked away after hearing the wage demands. And it looks as though Barcelona and Real Madrid are also set to follow suit since the deal is reaching too high a figure. And that is without taking into account the hefty fees that Raiola will demand in facilitating the operation.

With Dortmund’s exit from the Champions League last night, it will be interesting to see whether they lower their demands. And depending on the context of European qualification next season, it remains to be seen whether Haaland’s 75 million euro release clause comes into play in 2022.
