England came so close to glory at last summer's European Championship, eventually agonisingly losing 2-1 to Spain in the final.

But while the tournament in Germany was captivating viewers across the continent, it was a very different game which was keeping the England players entertained behind the scenes.

As revealed by the Three Lions' official X account on Friday, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and co. played their own version of The Traitors at the team hotel, featuring Claudia Winkleman herself!

The Traitors - a British television smash hit - is a tense psychological adventure competition where 22 strangers are moved into a castle in the Scottish Highlands to complete a series of challenges and missions together as a team. The catch, however, is that amongst the loyal contestants hoping to win a cash prize of up to £120,000, three traitors are secretly lurking, sabotaging their efforts and picking off contestants one by one.

Following the popularity of the game ‘Wolf’ which had been played among the England squad at the @FIFAWorldCup in Qatar, a game of Traitors was organised for the duration of the group’s time in Germany.

With a special firepit area at the team hotel, those daily debates about who was a 'Traitor' proved to be every bit as entertaining and emotional as the show itself, given the competitive nature of all the participants.

As more participants were banished at the firepit, those who were further culled by the Traitors were told when a letter was pushed under their hotel room door later that night, with their fate printed and written in a style similar to the popular game show.

Eventually, after weeks of eliminations and ‘murders’ there were ten finalists remaining, which led to a tense showdown of traitors and faithfuls pitted against each other around the firepit.

The finale was made even more special when they received a video message from @ClaudiaWinkle, host of the UK’s #TheTraitors.

And as for the winners, it was the Traitors who came through, with @MarcGuehi13 remaining the last participant standing having seen off the last two faithfuls in @trippier2 and chef Dave Pyle.
