Eddie Nketiah is set to be sidelined for at least three weeks with a stomach muscle strain in what would be a major Leeds United blow, Football Insider understands.

The on-loan Arsenal striker, 20, missed Saturday’s 2-0 Championship win over QPR after suffering an injury in training the day before the match.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club’s medical staff expect Nketiah to require an extended period of recovery that could keep him out for most of this month.

That would rule him out of Saturday’s league home clash against Blackburn Rovers as well as the England Under-21s Euro qualifier against Albania on Friday of next week.

Nketiah would then need to convince Marcelo Bielsa and staff of his fitness ahead of three Championship fixtures in eight days after the international break.

Losing Nketiah for a lengthy period of time would be a massive blow to Leeds even though he is yet to start a league match for his loan club.

The striker is United’s top scorer this season with five goals, three of which have come as a substitute in Championship matches and the other two in the League Cup.

Nketiah was in line to start Saturday’s clash against QPR, but Bielsa turned back to Patrick Bamford after the youngster’s injury.

Bamford’s goal drought has extended to 10 games but he has started all 15 of the club’s Championship matches this season.
