Manchester City were recently crowned Premier League champions for a third successive season, but does Bayern Munich loanee Joao Cancelo get a winners medal?

The Blues claimed a fifth Premier League title in six years last weekend, as Arsenal fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Pep Guardiola’s side lifted the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday, following their final home match of the campaign against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

The West London club gave Manchester City a guard of honour, as the Sky Blues capped off their campaign at home with a 1-0 win, courtesy of Julian Alvarez’s first half strike.

City’s title triumph is the first of potentially three trophies for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, with an FA Cup Final and UEFA Champions League Final both fast approaching.

Meanwhile, Joao Cancelo, who dramatically quit the Etihad Stadium for the Allianz Arena in January, became a Bundesliga champion with Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel’s side dramatically won the German title on the final day, as they beat Köln and Borussia Dortmund failed to win against Mainz.

The 29 year-old, who played against City in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals in April, made 15 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich during his loan spell.

Cancelo was presented with a Bundesliga winners medal on Saturday, but does the Portuguese full-back also get a Premier League winners medal?

Prior to his sudden departure following a reported training bust-up, Cancelo had made 26 appearances for Manchester City – starting 23 games for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The defender made 17 Premier League appearances and according to league rules, players with a minimum five appearances get a medal.

“The champions are also given 40 commemorative medals made of silver, which are 2.25in (5.7cm) in diameter,” reads the Premier League rules.

“They can be distributed to the manager, players and officials as the club see fit, as long as every player who has made at least five Premier League appearances during the title-winning season gets one.”

“Additional medals may only be presented with the consent of the Premier League Board, and that will only be granted if more than 39 players have made at least five PL appearances during the campaign.”
