Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger turned down Tottenham in final days of the summer market.

The Athletic reports Chelsea were willing to allow Rudiger to move to Tottenham on loan, but the player himself turned down the chance.

The Germany international has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Thiago Silva in the summer. He's made a single start in the Champions League, but is yet to feature in the Premier League this campaign.

Chelsea have softened their stance on doing business with clubs they consider direct rivals, but the player himself thought his life would be “made difficult" by going to one of Chelsea's biggest rivals.

Without regular opportunities, it remains to be seen whether Rudiger will go out on loan in January in a bid to play himself into contention for Germany's squad for the Euros.
