It is no secret that Real Madrid are already planning for the future, particularly in their full-back positions.

Currently, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy hold the right and left-back spots, respectively, but both of their contracts are set to expire in 2025.

While there is optimism that they will extend their contracts, the club is also aware of the need to strengthen their squad depth, especially given Carvajal’s advancing age.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have already identified a few potential targets to fill these positions.

Fortunately, there is no immediate urgency, allowing the club ample time to explore various options and potentially secure players who will be available on free transfers in 2025.

With this in mind, let’s take a closer look at two prominent full-backs who could be ideal additions to Real Madrid’s squad in the summer of 2025.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold, valued at €70 million by Transfermarkt, is widely regarded as one of the best modern full-backs in football. His current contract with Liverpool runs until 2025 and while Liverpool are keen to extend his deal, Real Madrid’s interest could complicate matters for the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold’s potential availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option for Real Madrid.

At 25 years old, he is entering the prime years of his career. He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, having played crucial roles in Liverpool’s domestic and international successes.

His attacking prowess, vision, and ability to deliver pinpoint crosses make him a valuable asset for any team. Real Madrid sees him as a potential long-term solution for the right-back position.

Moreover, the 25-year-old has a close friendship with Jude Bellingham and this bond could be a significant factor in his decision to move to the Spanish capital.

The opportunity to play alongside his friend and be part of one of the most prestigious clubs in the world could be a compelling reason for him to consider a move to Real Madrid.

Alphonso Davies

The €50 million rated Alphonso Davies is another highly talented full-back who could be on Real Madrid’s radar. The Canadian international currently plays for Bayern Munich, but recent reports suggest that his future at the club is uncertain.

His contract with Bayern also ends in 2025, and negotiations for a renewal have reportedly hit a stumbling block. The relationship between Davies and Bayern Munich has been strained, mainly due to disagreements over his salary demands.

Despite his excellent performances on the field, the club has struggled to meet his financial expectations. As a result, there is a growing belief that Davies may leave Bayern when his contract expires.

If Davies becomes available on a free transfer in 2025, Real Madrid would likely be very interested in acquiring his services.

At just 23 years old, Davies possesses incredible speed, agility, and defensive skills. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively makes him a perfect fit for Real Madrid’s style of play.

While there is no formal agreement between Real Madrid and Davies at this point, the player has expressed a desire to play for the club.
