Borussia Dortmund are hoping to clinch their place at the top of Group F in the UEFA Champions League when they lock horns with Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday. The Black and Yellows are leading the group with ten points but are running the risk of finishing second should they fail to secure a win in this game and Lazio registers all three points in the other game against Club Brugge.

Defence

Dortmund played without Manuel Akanji and Raphael Guerreiro in the game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. They are still yet to provide any update regarding their fitness, so it is safe to expect them to be unavailable this midweek as well.

As far as the team selection is concerned, Lucien Favre may opt for a four-man backline against Zenit, which means Emre Can could be sacrificed, with Mats Hummels and Dan-Axel Zagadou operating at the heart of the defence.

Mateu Morey remains favourite to replace the injured Thomas Meunier at right-back ahead of Lukasz Piszczek while Nico Schulz could make way for Felix Passlack on the opposite flank. Roman Burki should retain his place in goal, however as the Swiss goalkeeper has performed well in the Champions League this season.

Midfield

Favre is set to shuffle his pack in central midfield with both Axel Witsel and Mahmoud Dahoud set to return to the bench this midweek. It should pave the way for Thomas Delaney and Jude Bellingham to form the double-pivot. Both the players were impressive in the previous Champions League fixture against Lazio, but things could get tricky this time around.

Attack

There could be changes in the attacking department as well and we could potentially see Youssoufa Moukoko making his starting debut for Borussia Dortmund. The 16-year-old could replace the injured Erling Haaland in the number nine role, thus allowing Marco Reus to feature in his preferred number ten position.

Giovanni Reyna was excellent against Frankfurt but he has already played the past two matches for Dortmund. So he could return to the bench, allowing Jadon Sancho to retain his role at right-wing, while Thorgan Hazard is almost destined to operate on the opposite flank, at the expense of Julian Brandt.
