Mateo Retegui continues to impress in the early days of his life as Italyās number nine.
The 23-year-old was the surprise package in Roberto Manciniās Euro 2024 qualifying squad, but has rewarded the bossā decision by etching his name into the Italian history books.
By heading home a Sandro Tonali corner-kick in the first half of Italyās qualifier against Malta tonight, Retegui showed just how quickly he is settling into life with the Azzurri.
That is two goals in two appearances for the national team.
The centre-forward position has long been a sore spot for the Italians, but in Retegui, Mancini may have his man up-front for the upcoming tournaments.
Only Giacomo Raspadori has more goals for Italy than Retegui in the last 12 months (four to two).
A win tonight against Malta will send Italy back up into second place in Group C.
