Ahead of the new season, Eintracht Frankfurt is restructuring its medical department. Professor Florian Pfab MBA, who currently heads the medical department together with Christian Haser M.Sc. Thanks to the trusting and open discussions, Eintracht Frankfurt was able to put the right plans in place in good time and therefore Christian Haser will fulfil his current leadership role on his own in future.

Fabian Plachel to become senior team doctor

Stepping up as senior team doctor at Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG will be Dr Fabian Plachel PhD, who as team doctor since July 2022 is very familiar with the team and its processes.

Plachel’s task profile will also be filled internally by Dr Sebastian Schneider, who has been a doctor at the academy since 2019 and head of medicine since the start of the 2023/24 season. Schneider will also retain this role in order to ensure even closer links between the academy and the first team in this area.

Winfried Banzer takes charge of medical science department

Last but not least, Professor Winfried Banzer will be in charge of the medical science department. The aim of the department is to recognise trends in research and science at an early stage, to enter into and maintain partnerships, and to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments.

Banzer was formerly dean and professor of the sports medicine faculty at Goethe University in Frankfurt and has been contributing his wealth of experience and network to the Hessian Bundesliga club since 2020. Eintracht cooperates with professors and top international specialists on specific clinical and scientific issues.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche explained: “Florian Pfab and his team have developed the sports medicine department very well over the past five years. We respect Florian’s desire for a new challenge and had planning security at an early stage thanks to the professional communication. Thanks to the promotion of deserving specialists and internal impetus within the club, we believe we are very well positioned for the future in terms of expertise, collaboration and development.”
