Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United inching closer towards securing Jadon Sancho

According to a reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United is inching closer towards reaching an agreement for Jadon Sancho.

This is the second time in two summers that the Red Devils are making a move for the English winger. Having missed out on him last summer, it appears that we are showing more of an initiative this time around.

Borussia Dortmund for their part have made it clear what United will need to fork out to land Sancho. The Germans are seeking a transfer fee of €95m. By now, United must be aware that lengthy negotiations will do us little good.

While there is continued optimism among all parties involved that an agreement can be reached, there is also a sense of cautiousness that accompanies it. Given the saga that occurred a year ago, that is to be expected.

It was revealed yesterday that United have agreed on personal terms with the player on a contract that runs until 2026. Romano has now confirmed that the agent fee has also been agreed on.

United have also tabled an opening offer of €69.5m for the 21-year-old. This however falls significantly short of what Dortmund want. The ball is now in our court and it remains to be seen if we will seize the opportunity.

Dortmund chiefs are aware that they are in a strong negotiating position. They are well aware that United cannot afford any more transfer embarrassment especially after failing to seal the deal last summer.

A strong Euros with England will only embolden the Germans further. It is in our best interests to get the deal done as quickly as possible.

Sancho will not just make us a better team but also send out a signal that we can still attract the best talents in the business. The 21-year-old has the hallmarks of a world-beater and will hopefully develop into that at Old Trafford.
