Even though it is the day of the derby between AC Milan and Inter, a sizeable portion of this morning’s newspapers continues to be dedicated to who might be the next head coach of the Rossoneri.

According to what is being reported by La Repubblica (via PianetaMilan), it now seems pretty much certain that tonight will be Stefano Pioli’s last derby. The Europa League exit to Roma was yet another competition that could be marked down as a disappointment, and it will likely cost him his job.

The paper have also reported another name who could potentially replace him: Gary O’Neil, a young English coach who currently has Wolverhampton Wanderers 11th in the Premier League table.

A former midfielder, in his footballing career he also played for Middlesbrough and West Ham. As a coach, however, he started as a technical assistant of Liverpool’s U23 team in the 2020-21 season.

Subsequently he was at Bournemouth and then now Wolves. O’Neil is yet another name added to an already very long list, and the situation will only become clearer in the coming days given Gerry Cardinale has some important meetings today.

The 40-year-old has taken charge of 40 games with Wolves and has a record of 16 wins, eight draws and 16 losses, with 62 goals for and 62 goals against. However, he has drawn praise for his attractive style of play, and for getting the most out of the squad.
