AC Milan are expected to try and sign a new central midfielder during the January transfer window, and Warren Bondo’s name keeps coming up.
While waiting for the return of Ismael Bennacer, La Repubblica (via NotizieMilan) are reporting that the Milan management want to sign another midfielder anyway, perhaps because of Yunus Musah’s new hybrid role on the right.
Bondo has established himself as one of the most promising young players in the Italian football scene over the past two seasons, playing both as a box-to-box player and in an anchoring role in front of the back four.
He actually made the decision not to join Milan in 2022, despite the interest already shown by the then-directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. However, it can be argued that his choice was a mature one, because he wanted to make the jump to Serie A but get guaranteed starts.
Last season he managed to score his first league goal against Milan in a 4-2 win for Monza last season, which was perhaps a message to the new management that he is now ready to make the jump to a top club.

The paper claims that the Rossoneri are indeed keeping a close eye on him and they state that sources in Monza have suggested things are already quite far advanced, to the extent that they expect him to leave.
Under Alessandro Nesta in the current season Bondo has made 15 appearances between the league and the Coppa Italia, accumulating 1,201 minutes of action. Negotiating with Adriano Galliani might make things a bit easier, especially with the Daniel Maldini situation to consider.
