Ederson is reportedly set to sign a three-year contract extension at Manchester City on top of his existing deal, which runs until 2025, with the club also looking at other new contracts for key players.

Sam Lee of The Athletic reports that City are planning fresh talks with Ederson, who is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal that would run until 2028, by which time the goalkeeper will be 34-years-old – turning 35 that August.

The 27-year-old signed a contract extension until 2025 following his debut season and the iconic Centurions campaign in 2017/18, which saw the club pick up a League Cup and the Premier League title – Pep Guardiola's first trophies in Manchester.

The report adds that John Stones and Phil Foden are also in talks regarding contract extensions at the club, while previously reported stories concerning Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling are also cited, with the pair set for contract talks, too.

Sam Lee highlights that while cost-cutting is not the primary motivation behind the contract talks, it could help the club make room on their books due to transfer fees being spread out across the length of a contract for accounting reasons in a process called amortisation – extending a contract reduces the amortisation cost per year – allowing the club more manoeuvrability in their books that financial year due to the reduced cost.

Ederson featured as Brazil's starting goalkeeper in the knockout rounds of this summer's Copa America, and his importance to Guardiola's side has rarely been questioned throughout his four seasons at the club so far. Extending Ederson's deal to 2028 would take his stay in Manchester to 11 years.

The highly reputable Jack Gaughan of Mail Sport reports there is confidence around the club that Jack Grealish will sign for them in the coming weeks, with the player believed as wanting to make the move. Gaughan adds that the club remain in talks with Aston Villa, who want £100million, with City negotiating down from that price.
