Reports: City youngster closing in on Cardiff City loan

Cardiff City look set to win the race to sign 20-year-old midfielder Tommy Doyle, according to the reports. Several Championship clubs were reportedly interested, but the academy starlet looks like he will be playing the remainder of the season in the Welsh capital. The side currently sit 20th in the Championship.

Ben Ransom of Sky Sports claims that the England U-21 international is closing in on a loan move to Cardiff, with Manchester City to terminate the current agreement with Hamburg, which was due to run until the end of the season.

Doyle was initially loaned out to the 2 Bundesliga side, but his minutes were limited. The youngster made just six substitute appearances and one German Cup start whilst at the club. The loanee scored once in a victory over SC Paderborn.

Earlier in the week, Hamburg sporting director Michael Mutzel confirmed the midfielder insisted to 'end the loan', as per reports from Germany.

In the same report from German outlet MOPO, Mutzel said:

"We had a conversation with Tommy before the winter break in which he told us that he wanted more playing time and that this was also a reason for the loan."

The 42-year-old continued:

"This playing time was limited, he asked to be able to end the loan. We agreed to that for the time being."

With Doyle still learning his trade and maturing into senior men’s football, it is vital the Manchester-born midfielder gets regular game time under his belt.
